On Monday, April 23rd, the Spanish I and II classes traveled to Barton Community College campus to attend the Hispanic Culture Workshop. Over 200 area high school students participated. The students each selected and attended 4 different workshops ranging from soccer and traditional student-led Latin American dances to South American geography, the Spain and Catalonia conflict, weird Spanish traditions, Mexican artists and paintings, the current DACA situation, non-verbal communication, and the history of chocolate.
Spanish II students and above were encouraged to write a poem in Spanish prior to the event and submit it for the writing contest. Special recognition went to Otis-Bison High School Spanish II students, Maddie Wiltse and Ana Soria. They were 2 of the 4 students that received awards for their Spanish poetry!
Before returning to school, the Otis-Bison students visited La Pasadita, a small Mexican store on 10th Street in Great Bend for authentic Mexican snacks and sodas.
